Programming Kenwood 900MHz radio for 33cm amateur radio

As of WINE 1.8, KPG-49D does not work in Linux. So boot into Windows or use a Windows virtual machine for programming your Version 2 Kenwood 900MHz radio.

Note: If you have a yellow exclamation point over your USB to serial adapter in Device Manager in Windows 8 or Windows 10, you may have an obsolete version of the Prolific 2303 chip. You can either replace the cable or use Windows 7.

This procedure is for VERSION 2 radios only! Version 1 uses the DOS software KPG-35D.

Install KPG-49D and then install the ham utilities:
