OpenCV 3 with Anaconda Python

You can install OpenCV 3 for Python on Linux, Mac, and Windows in one of two ways

  1. conda, pip or .whl (easy)
  2. compile it yourself (less easy, but more likely to fully work with codecs and have higher performance)

Anaconda Python 4.4 updated OpenCV to 3.1.0, but Anaconda’s distributed version of OpenCV is still mostly broken with regard to:

cv2.VideoCapture

cv2.imshow()

and other functions using codecs, as typical of other easy-install OpenCV methods. Also it asks to downgrade numpy.

So you might want to [compile OpenCV for yourself](](/anaconda-python-opencv3/) on whatever OS you’re using.
