Install WINE 2.x in Linux

WINE 2.x brings Microsoft Office 2013 and via a better architecture higher levels of compatibility for native Windows executables than ever.

Here’s how to install WINE on Linux.

Ubuntu ≥ 17.04

apt install wine-development

Ubuntu ≤ 16.10

  1. Install WINE repo
    wget https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/Release.key
    apt-key add Release.key
    apt-add-repository 'https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/'
    
  2. Choose one or both of winehq-devel or winehq-stable.
    apt install winehq-devel

apt-cache policy winehq-devel
apt-cache policy winehq-stable
