pip is the most commonly used Python package manager.
Pip can be installed in Cygwin from the Windows Command Prompt using the Cygwin
setup-x86_64 -P python38-pip
Some pip installable packages using compiled code require the Python development libraries and a C, C++ or Fortran compiler:
setup-x86_64 -P python38-devel gcc-core gcc-g++ gcc-fortran
From Cygwin Terminal:
python3.8 -m pip --version
will respond like:
pip 19.2.3 from /usr/lib/python3.8/site-packages/pip (python 3.8)
Note that it’s under
/usr/lib and not a
/cygdrive path to a regular Windows Python install.
For example, to install package “twine” for uploading your own PyPi packages:
python3.8 -m pip install twine
Instead of Cygwin, most Python work on Windows could use:
