Install Microsoft Office in Linux using WINE

Microsoft Office ≤ 2010 works easily on Linux with WINE ≥ 1.4. This requires WINE to be in Windows XP mode, which is the default for WINE 1.x.

Install Microsoft Office on Linux

  1. configure a separate Wineprefix for Office and run the Office installer
    WINEPREFIX=~/.wineoffice WINEARCH=win32 wine SetupOffice.exe
  2. after installing Office, one-time configuration
    WINEPREFIX=~/.wineoffice winecfg

    set riched20 to native, builtin

Now all the Office 2010 programs should run fine.

Optionally, run Microsoft Office from the Terminal.
