Install WINE 3 in Linux

WINE 3 brings Microsoft Office 2013 and via a better architecture, higher levels of compatibility for native Windows executables than ever. Here’s how to install the latest WINE on Linux.

Ubuntu

  1. Install WINE repo
    wget https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/Release.key
    apt-key add Release.key
    apt-add-repository 'https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/'

  2. Choose one or both of winehq-devel or winehq-stable.
    apt install --install-recommends winehq-devel

    • --install-recommends is important or you’ll get lots of errors messages on trying to install.

Which WINE versions are available?
