802.1x wireless WPA2-Enterprise without certificate: Ubuntu 14.04

nano /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/badwifi

where badwifi is the SSID of the 802.1x network you want to use.

Change system-ca-certs=true to

system-ca-certs=false

then reboot and see if you can connect.

A sign that system-ca-certs=true is happening is found by:

grep "TLS: Certificate verification failed, error 19 (self signed certificate in certificate chain)" /var/log/syslog

Note

setting system-ca-certs=false can subject your laptop to “fake” Wifi AP attacks by disregarding the need for a .cert file when connecting
